(MONROEVILE, Pa., October 1, 2012) With the acquisition of a Horiba LabRam HR high performance Raman technology microscope, RJ Lee Group’s Monroeville laboratory extends its industrial forensics capabilities into the area of molecular imaging. Raman spectroscopy provides a distinct chemical fingerprint for each molecule or material and can be used to very quickly identify it, or distinguish it from others. It has applications in wide-ranging fields from nanomaterials to pharmaceuticals, carbon materials, and semiconductors, wherever non-destructive, microscopic, chemical analysis and imaging is required. The LabRam HR’s optimized design enables high throughput for fast imaging of samples.  Detailed chemical images from a sample’s Raman spectrum can provide information on individual chemical components, polymorphs and variations in crystallinity. Raman spectroscopy and imaging complement and support current elemental imaging capabilities provided by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) while broadening the laboratory’s multidisciplinary approach.
